in 1997 i started the (staticstation) record label. Initially to release vinyl records from friends bands and bands of my own. In 2007 the label started back up as a collective with members of the chicago bands- Locks, A Tundra, and Tirra Lirra. For the most part the label is now run by myself and Theo from Locks/A Tundra/ etc. the rest of A Tundra helps out whenever they can. Our releases are available physically through Stickfigure Distribution and digitally via Itunes, Emusic, Thrill Jockey, Amazon, and more.
in 2009 i started a “sister-label” of sorts called _fissure.recordings this label is dedicated to more specifically experimental music. Drone, field recordings, minimalism, quiet noise, minimal techno, glitch, etc. Our first pair of releases were made as limited edition physical releases with printed jackets and download cards featuring 16bit audio files of the recordings and .pdf booklets. The idea was to have a physical product with artwork and such but not have all the plastic and waste of CDs. The next few releases will be digital only, and perhaps in the future we’ll make another attempt at doing physical products but for now, _fissure is a digital label this keeps costs down, and keeps it enjoyable.
